Overcoming Spiritual Warfare
Isolation is the enemy’s playground. So, it's no wonder this pandemic has left many of us in the middle of a spiritual battle.
Billy Graham explained spiritual warfare perfectly in his book Angels:
‘This invisible spiritual conflict is waged around us incessantly and unremittingly. Where the Lord works, Satan’s forces hinder; where angel beings carry out divine directives, the devils rage.’
In lockdown there is still a battle going on for our souls, purity and sanity. But we have a God who knows us and our weaknesses so intimately.
Sometimes the only comfort I can find is knowing Jesus too wept, as He felt abandoned and cried out to the Father.
"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathise with our weaknesses, but one who has in every respect been tempted as we are, yet without sin." Hebrews 4:1
How do we fight in a spiritual battle we can’t see?
Become connected to what’s going on in the spirit. We have to recognise that what’s happening isn’t only a flesh issue but a spiritual one(Ephesians 6:12). By spending time in prayer, praise and studying of the Word, you become even more sensitive to what’s happening in the spirit and you know how to fight back.
Prayer and fasting - When the disciples couldn’t cast out an evil spirit Jesus told them: ‘This kind can come out only by prayer.’ Mark 9:29. Some breakthroughs will need consistent prayer.
Worship alone and when lockdown is over, worship in groups - Do not be afraid to ask for your friends to intercede for you. Teach your heart to praise in the good and the bad times.
Read the Word - While podcasts, music and YouTube sermons are great, the Word itself sanctifies and ministers to us. Let God speak right into your situation straight through His word.
Take your thoughts captive - Your mind can either set you on the right path or on a downward spiral. Think about what you’re thinking about.
Most of all, don’t give up. Through him, we are more than conquerors.
How have you found this season spiritually? How have you overcome spiritual warfare?

Since my teenage years writing has been my passion and now I feel God is calling me to use my gift to connect with other women as we grow together in Christ. You'll typically find me writing articles, poetry and listening to worship music. My dream is to graduate and travel between my Church locations devoting myself to God and my writing.
