God’s love language

The concept of "love languages" has been around for some time now. The basic idea is that we all express love differently, and by understanding those differences, love languages can help you and bae love each other better.  In most healthy relationships, you want to do what makes the other person happy and vice versa. So naturally, when it comes to our relationship with God, the same should apply.

In John 14:15, Jesus said:

"If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”

This is an example of Jesus showing obedience as one of His love languages.

Luckily, we don’t have to go through the bible and note every single command in an attempt to try and follow them through our own strength. And thank God for that.

Our main focus as Christians should be to love him. Because if we love Him, we will keep his commandments.

Loving Jesus gives us the ability to keep his commandments.

When I first got saved, I tried to do Christianity by the book. One of the first ever things I tried to ‘give up’ was going out and getting drunk. I started understanding how that lifestyle was displeasing to God, so in an attempt to prove to God that I loved him, I decided to cut it out. But deep down I was experiencing serious FOMO. Everything in me still wanted to be out, waved, having fun with my girls. It felt like I was suffering. But truthfully, I didn’t know God, let alone love him.

& I quickly found out just how difficult it is to make sacrifices for someone you don’t love. Everything felt like a chore. But over time, I started developing a genuine desire to love him. And as I grew as a Christian, sacrifices started coming out of genuine love, not because I felt as though I had to. It no longer felt like an L.

My advice to anyone reading this seeking a deeper desire to know God and to please him is to spend time with him. Pray, read the bible, read biblical books, listen to messages. Slowly but surely it will change you. Love will lead to obedience.

I’ll end with this question: does your life reflect the fact that you love God? It’s easy to plaster statements that proclaim our Christianity all over our social media, ‘God First, Love God, Christ Follower’ etc. But do your actions match up?
